Description

This Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish features a flaky puff pastry filled with sweet cream cheese and strawberry jam, complemented by a simple glaze. Perfect for brunch or a snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 17.3 oz. box puff pastry dough, (2 sheets), thawed but refrigerated
  • ½ cup strawberry jam, other flavors also work
  • 1 tsp orange or lemon zest, (optional)
  • 1 tbsp milk, any type works
  • 1 tbsp turbinado sugar, or use granulated sugar
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375℉ and prepare a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Beat cream cheese and powdered sugar together in a medium bowl until smooth, about 1 minute.
  3. Unfold and lay out puff pastry sheets on the baking sheet.
  4. Cut 1-inch strips on both sides of the pastry, creating tassels while keeping the middle intact for the filling.
  5. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the center section of each pastry.
  6. Mix strawberry jam with optional zest and place it atop the cream cheese filling, using about ¼ cup jam per pastry.
  7. Fold the outer pastry strips over each other in a braiding pattern, creating a V over the filling.
  8. Brush the top of each Danish with milk and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let cool for 15 minutes before glazing.
  11. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until you reach a pourable consistency.
  12. Pour the glaze over the cooled Danish, allow it to set, slice, and enjoy!

Notes

For a richer flavor, use half vanilla extract and half almond extract in the glaze.
Feel free to substitute strawberry jam with any fruit jam of your choice.
These Danishes can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container.
