- 2–¼ cups flour
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1–¾ sticks butter (softened at room temperature, 14 tablespoons)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs (at room temperature)
- ⅓ cup heavy cream (or whole milk)
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream (or whole milk)

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, and baking powder, then set aside.
- Using a hand mixer, beat the softened butter until creamy. Add sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat for 2–3 minutes until pale and fluffy.
- Incorporate the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Gradually add the flour mixture and heavy cream, alternating between the two, until smooth.
- Pour about ⅔ of the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Mix the remaining batter with cocoa powder, an extra tablespoon of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cream. Spread this chocolate batter over the vanilla layer and swirl together with a knife to create a marble effect.
- Bake for 55–60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing and cooling completely on a rack. Dust with powdered sugar or top with chocolate ganache before serving.
Notes
Make sure the eggs are at room temperature for best results.
If you prefer a lighter texture, use cake flour instead of all-purpose flour.
The marble effect can be enhanced by swirling the batters more vigorously, but be careful not to over-mix.
