Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup quick oats
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 onion, sliced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup red wine
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef with oats, Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and milk. Form into 4 oval patties about ½ inch thick. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, covered loosely.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove to a plate.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter. Sauté the sliced onion until soft, about 5 to 7 minutes. Add the sliced mushrooms and ½ teaspoon salt, cooking for an additional 5 minutes. Stir in tomato paste and flour, cooking for 2 minutes.
- Gradually add the broth and wine, stirring constantly until simmering. Return the patties to the skillet, cover, and cook on medium-low for 12 to 15 minutes until cooked through, seasoning the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
Notes
For added flavor, let the patties chill overnight before cooking.
You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
