Description
This Crockpot Apple Butter offers a rich, sweet flavor that’s easy to prepare. With just apples, sugars, and spices, you’ll enjoy homemade goodness perfect for spreading on toast or using in desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 lb (1400g) apples (fuji, gala, honeycrisp, red delicious or similar)
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (100g) packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Slice and core the apples. Peeling is optional. Cut into small chunks for quicker cooking.
- Place the apples in the bottom of a 7qt slow cooker. Add sugars and cinnamon on top, and toss to combine well.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 3-5 hours, stirring after 2 hours, until apples become translucent, which usually takes about 4 hours.
- Blend the apple mixture with a hand blender until smooth. If using a regular blender, blend in batches to avoid overflow, leaving the lid slightly cracked.
- Return the blended apples to the slow cooker, cover with the lid slightly ajar, and continue to cook for an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour, until reaching your desired thickness.
- Stir in salt and vanilla. Allow to cool before transferring to jars or freezer containers. Uncanned apple butter may last about 2 weeks when refrigerated.
Notes
You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of sugar used.
The thickness can be adjusted by cooking longer or shorter, depending on your preference.
Apple butter makes a wonderful gift when jarred and labeled.
