- 8 ounces spaghetti
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ cup butter (unsalted)
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- salt and pepper (to taste)
- 2 teaspoons italian seasoning
- ½ cup white wine (such as sauvignon blanc)
- 1½ cups heavy cream
- 1 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water and drain.
- In a large skillet, add the olive oil and butter, then melt over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning to taste.
- Pour in the white wine and allow it to simmer for about 3 minutes.
- Add the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Incorporate the reserved ½ cup of pasta water and stir. Simmer for another 5 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
- Remove the skillet from heat.
- Mix the grated parmesan cheese into the sauce until melted and creamy.
- Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss well to combine.
- Serve with extra parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
Notes
For extra flavor, feel free to add chopped fresh herbs like parsley or basil as a garnish.
Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your spice preference.
If you prefer a lighter sauce, replace half of the heavy cream with chicken broth.
