Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups water, lukewarm
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 5½–6 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 large apples, gala, honeycrisp, granny smith, or another tart and sweet variety
- 1/3 cup butter, melted, or very soft
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup Karo syrup
- 1/2 15-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; stir well and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
- Add melted butter, eggs, salt, and 2 cups flour, mixing on low with a bread hook for 2 minutes until well combined.
- Stir in an additional 3½ cups flour on low. Add more flour as needed until the dough pulls away from the bowl. Knead on low for an extra 3 minutes.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rest in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
- Once risen, turn the dough out onto a floured surface and form it into a small rectangle. Roll the dough into a 24" x 12" rectangle, about 1/2" thick.
Notes
You can use a variety of apples for a mix of flavors.
Ensure the dough is adequately floured to avoid sticking while rolling out.
For extra sweetness, drizzle additional caramel on top before serving.
