Ingredients
Scale
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups 2% milk
- 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1–2 tablespoons buffalo hot sauce
- 1 lb. cooked noodles
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-high heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until combined into a paste.
- Gradually pour in the milk, whisking to avoid lumps, and cook for 4-6 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat and add cheese slowly, whisking until fully melted.
- Stir in garlic, buffalo hot sauce, and salt. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Combine the warm cheese sauce with the cooked noodles right away.
Notes
For a spicier sauce, add more hot sauce to taste.
Use freshly shredded cheddar for best results—pre-shredded cheese may not melt as well.
If the sauce is too thick, whisk in a splash of warm milk.
