Description

This Apple Fritter Bread features a soft dough filled with tart gala apples and warm spices, topped with a sweet glaze. It’s a delightful and easy treat perfect for breakfast or dessert!


Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/22 cups gala apples peeled and chopped
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine flour, light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Mix well, breaking up any lumps.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together melted butter and vanilla. Pour over the dry mixture and toss until crumbly.
  3. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix chopped gala apples with granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  5. In another large bowl, cream together room temperature unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  6. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  7. Stir in the sour cream, milk, and vanilla until combined.
  8. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated.
  9. Fold in the apple mixture gently.
  10. Pour batter into a greased loaf pan, topping with the refrigerated crumb mixture.
  11. Bake at 350°F for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Notes

Let the bread cool completely before glazing for the best results.
