Description

  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup plain non-fat greek yogurt
  • 1 egg plus 1 teaspoon of water; optional if you want to add toppings such as sesame seeds or poppy seeds

Instructions

  • Combine the flour and Greek yogurt in a bowl using a wooden spoon.
  • Once the dough forms, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead until it becomes a ball.
  • Flour your hands and the surface to manage the sticky dough, adding more flour if necessary.
  • Divide the dough into four even pieces.
  • Shape each piece into a log approximately 4 to 6 inches long and form a bagel by pinching the ends together.
  • Place the bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silpat.
  • To make the egg wash, beat together the egg and one teaspoon of water. Brush this on top of each bagel and add any desired seasonings.
  • Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for about 22 minutes.
  • Remove the tray, increase the temperature to 450°F, then bake for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until the tops are browned.
  • Store the bagels in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze them for up to 3 months.
